SCBA Confidence

Each year firefighters across our nation become lost or trapped and some tragically die in "routine" fires. Many of those who perish did so because they could not manage the emergency they found themselves involved in, preventing them from getting out of the fire building or area they were working.

This redesigned course will allow the student to build upon their basic SCBA skills and further enhance the individual's confidence in the SCBA and its use during a "personal" critical event. Students shall demonstrate proficiency with the SCBA in the following situations:

Maintenance/Inspection, Donning Time/Quality, Restricted Operations, Emergency Procedures, Air Management, Room Orientation, Radio Procedures/Emergencies, PASS Operations, MAYDAY/Urgent Message Procedures and Assisting other Firefighters w/ Emergencies

Designed For:

Fire service personnel

Course Length:

4 Units-12 hours

Prerequisites:

Firefighter I (1S). The nationally recognized Firefighter Level I certification or equivalent may be substituted for the course prerequisite. Students must also be physically capable of wearing SCBA and possess current medical clearance for SCBA use. Students not possessing this prerequisite will not be allowed to participate for their own safety.
