81-Refresher Training

Students participating in this course shall have completed The New York State Firefighting Essentials and Initial Fire Attack courses or equivalent. Nationally recognized Firefighter Level I certification may be substituted for the course prerequisites. Students not possessing these prerequisites will not be allowed to participate for their own safety. * Prerequisites- (1) Set Accountability Tags, Signed Training Authorization Letter, Students ages 16&17 must have parent or legal guardians sign as well, complete set of approved turnout gear, approved SCBA w/spare cylinder and personal utility or life rope and a 32oz sports drink.

Course content will enable firefighters to recognize the types of events encountered on the fire ground that contribute to firefighter disorientation and/or entrapment; to have knowledge of what is necessary to ensure their safety and that of their partners or crew members; and to perform self-rescue techniques when disoriented, separated, or needing to exit a structure in an emergency. All evolutions will evolve live fire suppression operations in accordance with NFPA 1403. This course requires students to perform a number of practical evolutions with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Maintenance/Inspection, Donning Time/Quality, Restricted Operations, Emergency Procedures, Air Management, Room Orientation, Radio Procedures/Emergencies, PASS Operations, MAYDAY/Urgent Message Procedures and Assisting other Firefighters w/ Emergencies

It should be realized that this is not an introductory training program but a refresher or an opportunity for the interior firefighter to demonstrate that they have mastery of the required basic SCBA emergency procedures and self rescuing skills. All attendees will be required to successfully complete the following FFI, SCBA Confidence and FF Survival skills on May 12, 2010 in order to attend the Saturday May 15, 2010 portion of the program:

3-2 PPE/SCBA Donning, 4-1 SCBA Emergencies, 4-2 Air Consumption, 4-3 Maze Skills,

6-1 Wall Breech Swim/Dive, 6-2 Low Profile, 6-3 Full Escape, 6-4 Following Hoseline,

6-5 1st Floor Window Escape, 6-6 Rapid Exit Location, FFS-E Breeching Walls, FFS-C Rapid Window Clearing
